Translator's Notes:

Shinigami - Death personified as a deity; the "Grim Reaper."  When Utena first meets Dios,
she asks whether he is Shinigami.

Cock - In Christian scripture, Christ predicts that his trusted disciple Peter would deny
him three times before a cock crowed. (Matt 26:69-75; Mark 14:66-72; Luke 22:55-62; John
18:16-18, 25-27)

Twelve disciples - Christ had twelve disciples. The night before his arrest in Gethsemane,
he asked them to keep watch and pray with him. Three times, the men all fell asleep and
Christ rebuked them for their weakness. (Matt 26:36-46; Mark 14:32-42; Luke 22:40-46)

Grotta - It. "cave, grotto." Perhaps an allusion to Christ's entombment.
